Myself as a MBA student and social media's impact on me.

Social media is one of the most powerful and wide spread communication mediums in today’s world. Distinct users can use it for various purposes across the globe. Social media is like an open door to information database that has NO boundary. I would like to share how I thoroughly utilized this medium to enhance my MBA academic learning.

1)   Because I’m an international student social media has helped me bridge the cultural gap by getting along with cohort students through Facebook and LinkedIn prior to the class beginning that leveraged my positive civic engagement.
The first thing i did soon after registering the MBA course was CREATE and share
LinkedIn Forum for cohorts "CSUEB MBA Summer 2012".

2)   Most of the academic process are new to me; social media has always assisted me in knowing about them before hand from Internet resources.

3)    Since we are located away from Hayward main campus, yet receiving updates on campus happenings, news and events through email notification that enabled my participation in corresponding activities.

4)   Marketing subject in MBA program made me subscribe to an online Focus group that contributes to my economic benefit, if my opinion turns out to be the best.

5)   Came across and learnt new academic related websites that are beneficial to MBA subjects and project requirements. These (http://ocw.mit.edu) websites became substitute source of learning apart from classroom lectures.

6) We are so much dependent on the social media and we are Unconscious about this fact. For the matter of fact I met my Wife on one of the matrimonial website !

7)   Last but not least, as a part of my MBA program project requirement I chose to kick-start my own company (https://www.facebook.com/united2learn) through a unique business strategy that encompass social media as a backbone for the business operations. Currently a group of 3 including myself are working on identifying and understanding various facets of strategy and feasibility of operations to fulfill the vision of the company.

  1. Ravi, Yes, socia media has connected each one of us at the beginning of the MBA program. I still remember that you were the person to create the Facebook and Linkedin account for the program and invited everyone on our program to join in group. By this way, we were connected before the first day of class and we can even notice some of the classmates when we actually met on the first day. Keep the good work!!!

    1. Thank you Tu,
Since we are experienced professionals, I created the Linked forum (Now updated the link in the blog) to be connected even after course completion. I guess Not many of our program cohorts are familiar with Linkedin or ever used, Not much participation seen on Linkedin as much as Facebook.
Our cohorts could learn the Linkedin Importance in networking with Professionals that would help them find right job oneself.
